Mexico's

The “beaches of Mexico” is a topic almost too broad to address in a short article. Suffice it to say that the variety of sea coast in Mexico goes from the longest stretches of Cosmopolitan sand in the most elegant resorts to the visually mind-blowing sight of the desert ending at the ocean. In the tiny fishing towns of Baja California live fisher-families who live entirely from the sea, and to whom a ride upon a Manta-Ray is a great gift. Down the Baja Peninsula, in Loreto, and to the south, the desert, and a very stark, rough desert at that, ends at the ocean and the view of two of nature’s elements that we would not expect to see together is staggering. There are all-inclusive resorts built in Mexico on stretches of coast that had nothing associated with them before the arrival of the resort-builders—it is wild coast. But there were built some of the most elegant all inclusive resorts in the world, and these resorts provide some of the most total escape available. Across the sea of Cortez is the great old port of Mazatlan, which has for a long time been a favorite resort town for Americans and is considered to be a place where the rockin’ never stops. Down the Pacific coast is elegant Puerto Vallarta, which was a simple fishing town until John Houston, Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, and a stellar group came and made The Night of the Iguana in a 1920’s hotel that hung along the Pacific Coast cliffs. Interest in Puerto Vallarta started with that film, and it is now a huge resort town, with some of the most valuable properties in Mexico. Many interesting beaches lie between Vallarta and the famous Resort of Acapulco, in the southern State of Guererro. The Acapulco Princess was the place to be seen in the 50’s, but now even the richest traveler has discovered a known but not over known secret over on the other side, in the ocean off Cozumel. It is an island called Isla Mujeres, and many seasoned world travelers have called it the most erotic place in the world. In the whole southern tip area around Quintana Roo and the huge tourist mecca of Cozumel Island the resort town of Cancun, the weather becomes most hot and humid, but the party goes on never the less. Up that coast lie Veracruz, Tampico, and other places whose resort character is diminished from the cities on the west coast, other than Veracruz. Veracruz is known as the capital of magic. Magicians in Mexico and ethnic magico-religions from all over the world converge on Veracruz each year for a huge convention. Veracruz is also known as the Gay city of Mexico. All in all, research with your travel agent will provide you with the beach experience you want. And don’t forget heavenly Las Hadas, in Manzanillo! |
